How will I find out about my misdemeanor court date in the 34th District Court?
For most misdemeanors, the 34th District Court schedules the date and mails a notice to appear to the address on your ticket, so keep your address current with the court.
The court says you can email it to update your address. Most misdemeanor cases require you to appear, and failing to appear can lead to a warrant. The court also has an online form for submitting an appearance or other requests. It says it replies by email within three business days.
How do I pay in the 34th District Court?
The 34th District Court takes payments online through its payment portal, and the court's website lists other payment options and a way to request a payment alternative.
You can also pay by check or money order, made payable to "34th District Court," in the drop box outside the main court entrance, with your ticket or case number in the memo line. The court says drop box payments are considered received the next business day, so drop yours off at least the day before the due date. Case information is available through the state's MiCOURT case search.
What happens with a pre-sentence interview in the 34th District Court?
If the judge orders a pre-sentence interview, the probation department asks you to fill out its forms and email them to probation@34thdistrictcourt-mi.org before the interview.
For drinking and driving or drug-related cases, that includes an information sheet, an ACEs assessment, and a NEEDS assessment. For other cases, like domestic violence or retail fraud, it is the information sheet and ACEs assessment. The court warns that failing to complete the forms can lead to cancellation of the interview and a show cause hearing or warrant. You can confirm receipt at (734) 941-4462, ext. 217.
Probation Rules That Trip People Up
The court says a voicemail or email does not count as reporting. You must actually speak with your officer or probation staff. If you are on drug testing, you must test on the day you are called, or a violation may be filed.
Adult Drug Treatment Court
The 34th District Court runs an Adult Drug Treatment Court lasting 15 to 24 months, with a team that includes the judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, probation, and treatment providers. Review hearings are open to the public. If probation tells you to complete a drug court screening, the court posts the forms on its website.
What to Bring, What to Avoid, and the Bottom Line
Bring your notice to appear, your ticket or charging papers, any bond paperwork, and copies of any probation forms you submitted.
What not to do:
- Do not move without updating your address with the court.
- Do not skip a reporting date because you left a message.
- Do not miss a drug test on the day you are called.
Keep your address current, read every notice, and complete forms on time.
